Objective

Through community conversations, we are creating a groundswell of support for diverse maternal and mental health services, aligning local birth options with community values.

About

Funded by the New Commonwealth Fund, Blue Cross Blue Shield Foundation of MA, and MA Department of Public Health, we are co-creating solutions to improve Boston's maternal and perinatal mental health care.

Birth centers, midwives, and doulas reduce racial inequities in maternal health outcomes, yet those who need them most can't find or access them. With new policies and funding, now is the moment to align this work with community values.

We partner with community groups of fathers, young people, families across generations and more to co-create Maternal Health Conversations that build awareness of diverse birth options and perinatal mental health, strengthen self-advocacy, and keep building bridges across Boston's maternal health ecosystem.

  • “A liberated birth celebrates & welcomes life-joyous, grounded, & free.”

    Conversation Participant

  • “We deserve beautiful births…birthing people of color should not only be advocated for but also have the opportunity and space to dream without limitations.”

    Conversation Participant

  • “This experience has been incredibly impactful. I often say that I learn just as much if not more from the participants as they do from me...It has fundamentally shaped how I approach my work. Clinically, it has made me more intentional, patient-centered, & responsive to the needs of those I serve.”
